Men's Cross Country Finishes 10th at NCAA Regional

BETHLEHEM, Pa.--Brian Goldberg was Penn's top finisher with a 28th overall finish at the NCAA Regional qualifying race in Bethlehem, Pa. Penn
finished with 257 points in 10th-place and advanced no runners to the championship race.  Goldberg clocked a time of 31:09 followed by Brian
Trembley in 31:17 in 34th place.

Senior Larry Contrella was Penn's third scorer with 39 points and a time of 31:21. Freshmen Luke Grau and Anguel Tolev rounded out the scoring with
75 and 81 points respectively. Grau finished in 32:02 with Tolev just behind him at 32:08.  Also running for the Quakers was Brian Cullin in 85th with a
time of 32:12.  With no runners advancing, Saturday's race was the last of 2007 for the Quakers.


Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at Heps

NEW YORK – Led by Reid McEwen and Brian Goldberg, both of who earned first-team All-Ivy, the Penn men’s cross country team finished third at
the Heptagonal Championships Friday at Van Cortlandt Park. It was Penn’s best finish since 2004.  The Quakers scored 101 points, finishing just
ahead of Columbia (108). Princeton won the team title, scoring 38 points, to give the Tigers a sweep of both titles on the day. Cornell was second with
67 points.

“I am very happy with our finish,” said head coach Charlie Powell. “This race never really works out the way you think, but we were hoping to get on
the podium and we did.”  McEwen clocked 24:45.8 to finish fourth overall – the highest finish by a Penn runner at this event since Sean MacMillan
placed fourth in 1999 – while Goldberg placed seventh in 24:51.1. McEwen’s time was the fourth-best on this course by a Penn runner, while
Goldberg’s time was the eighth-best.

The Quakers also got a strong performance from their No. 3 runner, Larry Contrella, who was timed in 25:17.9 and finished 18th overall.  
“All three of those guys are great people, and they have worked hard in their careers, so to see them finish up like this is nice,” said Powell. “They made
it their goal to earn All-Ivy, and for Reid and Brian to do it is special.”

Brian Trembley (25:40.3, 35 points) and Anguel Tolev (25:42.4, 37 points) were Penn’s other scorers Friday, while Luke Grau (25:42.8) and Brian
Cullin (25:53.2) were sixth and seventh, respectively.  Penn is back in action at the NCAA Regional in two weeks.


Men's Cross Country Competes at Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.--Brian Goldberg turned in Penn's top time as the team finished 30th at the Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Ind.--the location
of the NCAA Championship race in November. The Red and Blue scored 730 team points for a 30th-place finish.

Goldberg led the group with a time of 24:26 in 92nd place overall. Larry Contrella crossed the line at 24:53 (137th place) while Brian Trembley finished
at 25:02. Newcomers Luke Grau (25:12) and Anguel Tolev (25:13) rounded out the scorers for Penn.

Michael Lovejoy (25:29) and Reid McEwen (DNF) also competed for Penn.  The Quakers will now prepare for Heptagonals, Oct. 26 at Van
Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.


Men's Cross Country Takes Fourth at Paul Short Invite

BETHLEHEM, Pa.--The Penn men's cross country team was led by Reid McEwen in sixth place overall, to finish fourth as a team at the Paul Short
Invitational, Friday. The team score 187 points in the 8K outing.  McEwen clocked a time of 24:23, just two seconds out of of a top five finish.

Penn's other scorers finished close together with newcomer Anguel Tolev in 41st place at 25:03 followed by Larry Contrella at 25:04 (42nd). Brian
Goldberg was 47th at 25:11 and junior Brian Trembley was 51st at 25:21.  Also competing for the Red and Blue were Michael Lovejoy (25:37) and
Daniel Howard (25:35).

Villanova was the race winner with 50 team points and the top individual winner, Bobby Curtis, who paced the field with a time of 23:39.  The Quakers
return to action at Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.--the site of the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championships--Oct. 13.


Men's Cross Country Wins Second In a Row

NEWARK, Del.--The Penn men's cross country team won the Delaware Invite, Saturday, paced by freshman Luke Grau and senior Dan Howard in
first and second place. The Quakers scored 31 points in the second team win in as many meets this season.

Grau and Howard were neck and neck at, 26:22, the best time of the day on the 8K course at White Clay Creek State Park, with Grau declared the
winner. Brian Cullin (26:52) and Chris Baird (26:54) finished seventh and eighth. Tarik Aougab finished 13th with a time of 27:07 to round out the Red
and Blue scoring.

Seven other Quakers competed in the race: John Cassidy (27:16), Jeff Weinstein (27:24), Kevin Sullivan (27:31), Alejandro Shepard (27:44), Bryan
Scotland (28:18), Austin McDaniel (28:39) and Tim Kaijala (28:47).

The Quakers will head to the Paul Short Invite, hosted by Lehigh, in Bethlehem, Pa., Sept. 29.


Men's Cross Country Wins at Fordham Invite  
University of Pennsylvania

BRONX, N.Y.--The Penn men's cross country team beat out 21 teams to take first place at the Fordham Invite at Van Cortlandt Park in New York,
N.Y., Saturday. The Quakers scored 42 points improving on last season's 46-point, second-place performance at the meet.

The Quakers were paced by three men who finished in the top four. Reid McEwen finsihed second overall with a time of 26:16, only 13 second behind
the winner. Penn also took third and fourth places behind strong performances from Larry Contrella (26:24) and Anguel Tolev (26:26).

The Quakers compete next on September 15 when they travel to the University of Delaware.
